September Employee Spotlight at Trotwood Nursing Home
September 16, 2020Dayton, Ohio - At Maria Joseph, we have been blessed with a great team that is dedicated to putting their own health on the line to make sure our residents are taken care of. We would like to show our love and appreciation to our hard-working men and women at Maria Joseph for their unwavering desire and passion for providing care for those who are unable to perform it themselves. Even in the face of COVID-19, our staff never backed down and went into harm's way to make sure our residents are always taken care of.
One of the key factors in our success at Maria Joseph is our environmental services team, who takes great pride in their work and providing a spotless environment for residents to flourish and staff to work in. We take a great amount of pride in acknowledging all employees go to great lengths to ensure the health and wellbeing of our residents, but we would like to share a spotlight employee who exhibits every aspect of our culture of care.
Elizabeth (Liz) Miller has a pure selfless heart and will do anything to ensure residents and staff alike is always taken care of and is always there if someone needs help. Liz began her career in the healthcare field 18 years ago when she started out as a housekeeper on the floor. Liz quickly learned how important it is to make sure all of her residents were taken care of and took it upon herself to take on maintenance tasks when she felt comfortable enough to do so. This led to Liz becoming a Maintenance-Tech, where she sharpened her skills for two years. When faced with difficult situations where she was doubted, she accepted the challenge of being told "you can't do that" and proved the doubters wrong. Time and time again, Liz proved herself and gained the respect of staff and residents alike. Throughout her career, she has always kept a smile on her face and proved she will always find a way to succeed no matter the adversity.
Liz has been apart of Foundations for 14 years, and before Maria Joseph, she was at a sister facility for eight years. Liz has been apart of the Maria Joseph family for over six years as the environmental services director and has made an impact every day. Liz's motto is "never about the role, always about the goal," and she proves that every day. Liz never places herself above anyone she interacts with and shows the same respect to everyone. Even in the wake of COVID-19, Liz never took her foot off the pedal and continued to work and direct the environmental services department here at Maria Joseph to keep up the quality of life for all of our residents. Liz has embraced what it means to be a leader here at Maria Joseph and has built a great environmental services team. Liz believed in making everyone feel apart of a team and does this by working side by side with her staff sweeping, cleaning rooms and even help distribute resident meal trays with the nursing staff. Liz believes in hard work but also fun. Liz and her staff have dressed up and participated in a variety of parties for residents over the years, even dressing up like soul train dancers and dancing through the halls to music for all residents to enjoy and participate.
When Liz is not helping change lives here at Maria Joseph, Liz is helping influence and be an influence on her eight grandchildren. She loves her grandchildren and family more than words can describe and would do anything for them. To wind down, Liz enjoys the outdoors and goes camping. She also enjoys going bowling and working in her flower garden. Liz has become a key foundation piece of our success here at Maria Joseph, and we can't thank her enough for all of her dedication and determination.
